A coil is an electrical device that produces a signal that varies with time.

These type of cooktops are quite common in older style homes. Although they are extremely durable, these cooktops are difficult to clean and pose a burning hazard to families with young children because of the lengthy cool down time. With a pan or pot on top, the coil heats up and transmits heat directly into it.

The glass top sits flush with the top of the bench on these cooktops. Each ring on the glass has heating elements below it. These elements heat up and transfer heat through the hobs (pieces of glass) into your pot or pan.

An induction cooktop works by using a magnetic field to transmit heat to an induction pan or pot. These cooktops are one of the safest for families with curious children because they are safe to touch and the heat is conveyed exclusively through the magnets.
